Illinois ASPIRE (Alliance for School-based Problem-solving and Intervention Resources in Education) will establish and implement a coordinated, regionalized system of personnel development that will increase the capacity of school systems to provide early intervening services, aligned with the general education curriculum, to at-risk students and students with disabilities. This goal will be accomplished through four project objectives, which are to:

  1. Deliver research-based professional development and technical assistance to schools.
  2. Increase the participation of parents in decision-making across district sites.
  3. Incorporate the professional development content into IHE general and special education preservice curricula.
  4. Evaluate the effectiveness of project activities.

The Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) is a multidisciplinary research center at Florida State University. FCRR explores all aspects of reading research—basic research into literacy-related skills for typically developing readers and those who struggle, studies of effective prevention and intervention.

The Illinois PBIS Network builds capacity of schools, families, and communities to promote social and academic success of all students, including those with emotional/behavioral and other disabilities.  Key focus areas of the Illinois PBIS Network include:

  • Prevention-based school-wide systems of positive behavior support
  • Data-based decision-making for instruction of behavior and academics

The National Reading Panel (NRP) has completed the research assessment of reading instruction approaches. The members no longer meet as a panel but continue to present the NRP findings at various conferences and organizational meetings.

NICHD has formed a partnership with the National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) and the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to work on continued dissemination and implementation efforts of the NRP Report, as part of NIFL’s overall mission to disseminate and implement research-based reading practices.

National Mathematics Advisory Panel (National Math Panel) was created in April 2006 to help ensure our nation’s future competitiveness and economic viability.  To compete in the 21st century global economy, knowledge of and proficiency in mathematics is critical. Today’s high school graduates need to have solid mathematics skills—whether they are headed for college or the workforce.

The panel was charged with providing recommendations on the best use of scientifically based research to advance the teaching and learning of mathematics. Expert panelists, including a number of leading mathematicians, cognitive psychologists, and educators, reviewed numerous research studies before preparing a final report containing guidance on how to improve mathematics achievement for all students in the United States.
